What you may do with a dataset

Every listing on Kinetic Blocks states one licence, and the licence decides what you may do with the data after you download it. The licences are described below in plain English. The Data Licence Agreement you accept at checkout is the document that governs.

Commercial Standard

Commercial use permitted, across your organisation. You may not redistribute, resell, or publish the dataset.

Buyer may: Train and deploy models commercially, internal use across the buyer entity.
Buyer may not: Redistribute, resell, or publish the dataset or a reconstructable derivative.

In practice, this means

No redistribution, resale, or publication of the dataset
No publishing a derivative the dataset could be reconstructed from

Commercial Extended

Commercial use permitted, including affiliates and named contractors. You may not redistribute or resell the dataset.

Buyer may: As Standard, plus use by affiliates and named contractors.
Buyer may not: Redistribute or resell.

In practice, this means

No redistribution or resale of the dataset

Exclusive Transfer

Full rights, including redistribution. You become the sole rights holder and the listing closes on purchase.

Buyer may: Everything, including redistribution, as sole rights holder.
Buyer may not: Not applicable: single sale, delisted on purchase.

Research

Non-commercial research only. You may publish your results, but not deploy commercially and not redistribute the dataset.

Buyer may: Non-commercial research, publication of results.
Buyer may not: Commercial deployment, redistribution.

In practice, this means

Non-commercial use only, no commercial deployment
No redistribution or publication of the dataset itself

Custom, see dataset card

Negotiated

Custom terms, negotiated for this dataset and stated on its dataset card. Read them before you buy.

Buyer may: As negotiated and stated on the dataset card.
Buyer may not: As negotiated and stated on the dataset card.

In practice, this means

Read the negotiated terms on the dataset card before you buy

Open data licence (free or promotional only)

Free listings only

Open data. Use and redistribute under the stated open licence. Kinetic Blocks retains no restriction.

Buyer may: Use and redistribute per the stated open licence.
Buyer may not: No restriction retained by Kinetic Blocks.

Sale mode is a separate question

The licence says what you may do with the data. The sale mode says how many times the seller may sell it. They are two different things and a listing states both.

Non-exclusive, can be sold to multiple buyers
Exclusive, single sale, delisted after purchase
